GB6675.1 Test Method for Formaldehyde In 1 Cubic Meter Formaldehyde Chamber for Toys

2026-03-20

Numerous studies have shown that early formaldehyde exposure has a significant impact on the respiratory and immune systems of infants and young children, increasing the likelihood of allergic diseases. According to the requirements of the GB 6675.1-2025 standard, children's toys need to be tested for formaldehyde emissions. Below, we randomly selected toys to test their formaldehyde emissions according to this standard. The main procedures are as follows:

Testing Equipment: Huanyi Instruments GB6675.1 Toy 1 Cubic Meter Formaldehyde Chamber

Test Instruments: UV-Vis spectrophotometer; thermal desorption apparatus-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry; Tenax TA adsorption tubes; constant flow air sampler.

Test Standards:

GB 6675.1-2025 Toy Safety Part 1: Basic Specifications

GB/T 46509-2025 Determination of Volatile Organic Compound Emissions from Toys

Test Reagents:

1.0 μg/mL formaldehyde standard solution; phenol reagent; ferric ammonium sulfate.

Test Procedure:

1. Test Conditions Inside the Chamber

Temperature: (23±0.5)℃;

Humidity: (50±3)%;

Load Capacity: (1±0.02)m²/m³;

Air Replacement Rate: (1±0.05)h⁻¹;

Air Velocity on Sample Surface: 0.1 m/s ~ 0.3 m/s.

2. Test Method

Based on standard GB 6675.1-2025 "Toy Safety Part 1: Basic Specifications", the test was conducted according to the test method of GB/T 46509-2025:

(1) Select a suitable toy as the sample;

(2) Start the 1 m³ formaldehyde chamber 1-2 days in advance and adjust the Environmental Test Chamber to: air exchange rate 1.0 h⁻¹, temperature (23±1)℃, relative humidity (50±5)%, air velocity ≤ 0.3 m/s, stable operation, and detect the background concentration of the air inside the chamber to meet the test requirements.

(3) Spread the prepared sample flat inside the Climate Chamber, close the chamber door, start timing, and extract the air inside the chamber 24 hours later for formaldehyde testing.

Experimental Significance:

By using a 1 cubic meter formaldehyde chamber to simulate the formaldehyde release of toy products under indoor environmental conditions and its detection technology, this experiment is of great significance for further adopting safety risk assessment models to evaluate the chemical safety performance of toy products, promoting toy production, processing, and export trade, as well as addressing new technology barriers and supervision and enforcement.
