Test Preparation Requirements for Formaldehyde VOC Testing Chamber Using The Toy Airbag Method
Testing for formaldehyde (VOC) in toys is crucial for promoting toy production, processing, and export trade, as well as addressing new technological barriers and enforcing regulations. Before using a toy airbag method formaldehyde (VOC) testing chamber, various preparations are necessary. Below is a brief introduction.
Testing Equipment: Huanyi Instruments Toy Airbag Method Formaldehyde (VOC) Testing Chamber
Equipment Requirements:
Temperature: (23±1)℃;
Relative Humidity: (50±5)%;
Air Flow Rate: (0.1~0.3)m/s;
Formaldehyde Background Concentration in Test Chamber Air: Not exceeding 10μg/m²;
Other Aldehydes, VOCs, and SVOC Background Concentrations in Test Chamber Air: Not exceeding 5μg/m²;
Air Replacement Rate: (1±0.05)/h;
Loading Rate: (1±0.05)m²/m³;
Or Area-Specific Air Flow Rate (Air Replacement Rate/Loading Rate): (1±0.1)m/h.
Preparation before the test
1. Measurement of the total surface area of the sample
Before testing, the surface area of all components that may release organic compounds should be measured using a tape measure with a graduation of 1 mm or other length measuring instruments. The sum of these surface areas is the total surface area of the sample.
2. Test Chamber Adjustment
The total surface area of the sample is divided by the volume of the test chamber to obtain the sample loading rate. If this loading rate is not 1.0, the air replacement rate of the test chamber is adjusted so that the air velocity per unit area of the sample is 1.0. The test chamber is then opened and relevant parameters are adjusted to meet the above-mentioned "Equipment Requirements". After the instrument reaches the specified conditions, it is run unloaded for 2 hours, and a blank air sample is extracted from the chamber.
3. Sample Preparation
Before the test, the sample should be assembled in a manner most conducive to the release of harmful substances. After opening, pretreatment is performed, exposing the surfaces of all sample components to the pretreatment environment as much as possible to facilitate gas release. Any packaging, such as wrapping paper and plastic film, should be removed. The pretreatment time is (24±1) hours.
